Schwitzkästen
Dead Ends and Other Predicaments
Dortmund. Physically speaking, a *Schwitzkasten* (literally "sweat box") is a rectangular wooden box with an opening for the head, designed to flush toxins out of the body.
However, the exhibition "Schwitzkästen – Ausweglosigkeiten und andere Zwangslagen" (Sweat Boxes – Dead Ends and Other Predicaments)—presented by the Künstlerhaus from August 29 to October 4—does not feature actual rectangular wooden boxes; instead, the term serves as a metaphor for situations with no way out.
Works by artists including Kate Hers Rhee (Berlin/Detroit), Margund Smolka (Berlin), and Dominique Ghesquière (Paris) are on display.
