Open Studios
Artists in the Nordstadt open their doors to art enthusiasts
The Nordstadt district is defined not only by sex and crime, but also by Dortmund’s largest, geographically concentrated art scene.
NORDSTADT. On Saturday, June 13 (3 p.m. to 10 p.m.) and Sunday, June 14 (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.), 71 artists will open their studios at 17 locations. The range is vast, encompassing everything from hidden home studios and shared artist collectives to renowned cultural venues and even internationally acclaimed artists.
The works are as diverse as the artistic disciplines themselves: vibrant paintings, delicate drawings, abstract and figurative pieces, graphic art, photography, and sculptures, right through to new media. Expect the atmosphere of a working studio rather than a formal gallery, and in-depth conversations with artists instead of intellectual speeches. Art lovers are invited to embark on a voyage of discovery, occasionally looking over the artists' shoulders as they work, or discussing their creative processes and artistic philosophies.
Some visitors will undoubtedly take home a small or large piece of art—or commission one—and may well return in the future.

The flyer thus also serves as a reference guide to the Nordstadt art scene.
The 71 participating artists and the organizers look forward to the "Offene Nordstadtateliers" (Open Nordstadt Studios) event.
